10 Tips for 4th of July & Fireworks Safety For Dogs

    1. Keep Dogs Indoors After Dark
      • Walk your dog before dusk for exercise and potty time.
      • Avoid outdoor exposure once fireworks begin.
      • Never take your dog to a fireworks show.
      • Create a Safe Space - use a crate or a cozy den with blankets to make your dog feel secure.
      • Close curtains and blinds to reduce light flashes and noise.

    2. Use a Compression Wrap - gentle pressure around a dogs chest can help or muffling the sound can ease noise anxiety.

    3. Use Calming Scents

      • Plug in pheromone diffusers, like Adaptil, a few days before fireworks begin.

    4. Use White Noise

    5. Provide Interactive Toys - to keep your dog engaged.

      • Use filled KONGs
      • Lick mats 1  2  3
      • Puzzle feeders - there are so many choices, pick one or two you think your pup will like best
      • Snuffle mat - lots of choices here too, best as a supervised toy, to avoid ingestion
      • Safe chew toys can also help relieve stress.

    6. Practice Sound Desensitization

      • Use fireworks sound apps, starting at low volume and gradually increasing to build tolerance. There are many choices from Spotify and other music streaming services.

    7. Check ID Tags & Microchip Info

      • Ensure your dog’s ID tag and microchip contact information are current in case of escape.

    8. Stay Calm Yourself

      • Dogs are sensitive to your energy—stay calm and reassuring.

    9. Talk to Us About Supplements
    10. Schedule a Veterinary Visit Early to talk about medications
