- Keep Dogs Indoors After Dark
- Walk your dog before dusk for exercise and potty time.
- Avoid outdoor exposure once fireworks begin.
- Never take your dog to a fireworks show.
- Create a Safe Space - use a crate or a cozy den with blankets to make your dog feel secure.
- Close curtains and blinds to reduce light flashes and noise.
- Use a Compression Wrap - gentle pressure around a dogs chest can help or muffling the sound can ease noise anxiety.
- Use Calming Scents
- Plug in pheromone diffusers, like Adaptil, a few days before fireworks begin.
- Use White Noise
- Provide Interactive Toys - to keep your dog engaged.
- Use filled KONGs

- Puzzle feeders - there are so many choices, pick one or two you think your pup will like best
- Snuffle mat - lots of choices here too, best as a supervised toy, to avoid ingestion
- Safe chew toys can also help relieve stress.
- Practice Sound Desensitization
- Use fireworks sound apps, starting at low volume and gradually increasing to build tolerance. There are many choices from Spotify and other music streaming services.
- Check ID Tags & Microchip Info
- Ensure your dog’s ID tag and microchip contact information are current in case of escape.
- Stay Calm Yourself
- Dogs are sensitive to your energy—stay calm and reassuring.
- Talk to Us About Supplements
- Schedule a Veterinary Visit Early to talk about medications
- For dogs with severe anxiety, prescription anti-anxiety meds may be helpful. Contact us in advance.
